Green by Nature
Our People
· We
believe that every day presents opportunities for our employees to "go
green."
Respecting the environment and creating a "green" culture requires the
dedication of all Springs Window Fashions employees. Everyone's
involved, from the factory associates who manufacture our window
coverings to the office staff who strive to create a healthier working
environment. We've even developed a corporate "green team" to look for
the most efficient and effective ways to incorporate eco-friendly
practices into our products and facilities without sacrificing the
superior quality of our products.
Our Process
· It's
more than just our products - we're working toward a greener future in
all we do.
43 million pounds of
industrial waste generated in our Middleton, Wisconsin facility have been
recycled and diverted from landfills over the past 10 years.
· 90
million gallons of water are saved every year due to the installation of
a closed-loop water cooling system for plastics manufacturing.
· More
than 4,500 tons of sawdust are recycled annually in a "waste to energy"
program at our Grayling, Michigan wood plant. More than 99% of our total
sawdust is transformed into energy to fire the kilns and heat the
factory or is converted to wood stove pellets.
· A
71% reduction in airborne emissions has occurred in Middleton since
2000. Exhaust air scrubbers have been added at this facility to reduce
VOCs by 52%.
· A
minimum of 44% of post-consumer recycled material is included in the
packaging of all Springs Window Fashions products. Each package is
carefully engineered and tested to minimize the use of materials without
sacrificing the integrity of the product.
· 100%
of packaging materials are able to be recycled (according to a recent
study conducted by the University of Wisconsin).
Our Products
· Green
window treatments by a green company.
By design, all window coverings are inherently "green" because they
block heat loss and gain and reduce UV transmission. Springs Window
Fashions goes even further by using high-recycling facilities to
manufacture products specially designed to help create healthier, more
energy-efficient homes.
Energy Efficiency
· The
unique design of Cellular Shades forms pockets of air that insulate
windows from heat and cold to lower your energy bills year round.
· Our
Wood Blinds are crafted from natural materials that provide an excellent
layer of insulation.
· Solar
Shades block up to 95% of the UV rays transmitted into your home,
lowering your energy cost especially through the hot summer months.
Darker fabrics provide glare control and visibility, lighter fabrics
enhance temperature control.
Renewable, Responsible
Products
· Natural
Shades are harvested from renewable resources like bamboo, sisal, grass,
jute and wood. These fast-growing products are ready for harvest in one
to five years. Their root systems remain intact and are used to grow new
shoots and prevent soil erosion.
· Our
Wood Blinds are produced using North American hardwoods that are
carefully harvested through "sustainable yield forest management". This
means that the amount of wood harvested is far below the levels of
growth.
Healthy Home Certifications
Choose our low-emission and irritant- and allergen-free fabrics to
reduce airborne contaminants and the risk of allergies, asthma and other
long-term health issues.
· Oeko-Tex
Standard 100, Confidence in Textiles, certifies that many of our Sliding
Panels, Roller, Vertical and Roman fabrics are free of PVC, halogen,
lead, formaldehyde, allergenic dyes, pesticides, phenols, heavy metals
and meet all VOC (volatile organic compounds) content limits.
· Several
Solar Shade fabrics are GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified®
for low VOC-emitting materials. All GREENGUARD Certified Products have
been tested for their chemical and particle emission performance by a
third-party lab.
